Pilates

  • Pilates Mat
    • This course is designed to provide the student with a basic understanding of the Pilates Method as one of the six body therapies.  Focus on Pilates 1 will be on the fundamentals and matwork exercises with concentration on breathing, pelvic work, “the powerhouse,” visual imaging, imprinting and stabilization. Student will refine body and mind. The course will also include a historical background of the exercises and philosophy by Joseph H. Pilates.
  • Pilates & Props
    • This course is designed to provide the student with a basic understanding of the Pilates Method and its connection to the use of props.  Focus of this course will be on the use of a variety of props and Pilates exercises to enhance flexibility, coordination, strength and balance. The student will learn how to incorporate props such as the theraband, power circles, rotator discs, physioballs, rollers and the overball into their exercise plan.  These props will add to the resistance of each exercise, aid in flexibility exercises and enable the student to work on toning the body as a whole.  Pilates Props will also discuss basic anatomy to gain a greater understanding of alignment and imbalances in the body.  The course will also include a historical background of the exercises and philosophy developed by Joseph H. Pilates.
  • Pilates Apparatus
    • The study of Pilates apparatus work as designed by Joseph H. Pilates; works with the five basic principles of Pilates including breathing, pelvis and ribcage placement, scapulae stabilization, head and cervical alignment; uses apparati such as reformer, Cadillac, chair and barrel; incorporates the use of props such as foam rollers, mini balls, physioballs, block therabands and pinky balls into apparatus work.
